Model Town, Lahore
Model Town is one of Lahore's oldest planned suburbs, laid out in the 1920s as a circular garden town with lettered blocks radiating from a central park. It is run by its own society, has some of the largest residential plots in the city, and is known for mature trees, wide roads and families that have lived there for generations.

What makes Model Town different?
The plan. It was designed as a cooperative garden suburb before Partition, with concentric roads, large plots and the park in the middle, and that plan survives. Most plots are one or two kanal, the roads are wide, and the trees are older than the houses. It feels unlike anything built in Lahore since, and that is exactly why people pay for it.
It is administered by the Model Town Society rather than LDA or DHA, which means society membership, transfer rules and dues are its own. The society has been protective of the residential character, so commercial activity is concentrated around the Link Road and the block markets rather than spread through the lanes.
Who lives in Model Town?
Established Lahore families, many of them for two or three generations, plus professionals who want a central address with space and quiet. Houses rarely come to market in the inner blocks, and when they do they tend to sell by word of mouth. The outer blocks and the extension are more active, with older houses being rebuilt.

Model Town Park is the centre of the area and of daily life, with walking tracks that fill up every morning and evening. The Link Road carries the restaurants and shops, Kalma Chowk and Ferozepur Road are on the boundary, and Jinnah Hospital, Faisal Town and Garden Town are all adjacent. It is a short drive to Gulberg and the city centre in one direction and Johar Town in the other.
What should I check before buying in Model Town?
Society membership and the transfer record at the society office, the society dues clearance, and the registered deed. Because many houses are old, check the condition honestly: a plot's value is in the land and position, and a buyer often rebuilds, so budget accordingly. Confirm whether the plot has any society restriction on subdivision, which is a question with larger kanal plots.
